My trainer said yesterday:
Make sure you are getting plenty of good quality sleep – you should aim to be asleep by 10pm and then get 8 hours sleep. The reason for this is hormone levels. Our stress hormone level rises all day long and as it goes up the body stops using fat so going to bed and sleep from 10 brings the level back down again and means that during the night and the next day your body is burning fat at a higher rate than it would be doing if you don’t get the sleep. Try it.
