August Bank Holiday glamour made me go back to my precious books

meeting the talented and famous
is almost always
disappointing.
they usually seem rather common,
even dull.
of course, they are
(at the time of the meeting)
out of character,
out of their creative
element.

there must be a
pause
of course,
a time to relax,
the flame can only
be turned up
at given moments,
otherwise
they’d burn
out.

yet
when you meet them
you still look for a sign,
a hint
of their magnetism and
talent.
but there usually is
none.

how close we all are
to being
nothing
most of the
time

and
for some of us
nothing
all of the
time.
